Welcome to my Creative Table. Today I am painting purple poppies. I found this gorgeous image on Pinterest “Jacky Parker Floral Art”. As in all art, it is your interpretation of the image, so this is mine. I love the soft look of this photo. In my own watercolour images, I enjoy lining with a fine liner to finish my images.
To me, it is important to find your style when it comes to being creative. At this moment in my journey this is my style and after every piece, I am inspired to do more and do as much as I am comfortable doing in a day, week or month.
And watching other creators on YouTube is great, but I try and produce more than what I consume. It is all well and good to get inspired, but it is only worth the inspiration if you do something with it. Will your first projects be as amazing as your favourite YouTuber’s projects? Mostly no, as you can clearly see in my images.
But… Am I growing with each project? Yes. Am I developing as a creative and working on my own style? Absolutely.
So these purple poppies were painted for my best friend Alana Hodgson. She loves Poppies but it never seems to be available on her birthday.
We are always looking for a deeper meaning in art, so I decided to look at my images after I painted them and do an analysis of the subject and colours used in this project.
POPPY: The poppy remains a humble, poignant symbol of Remembrance and hope.
COLOUR: To this day, we think of purple as the colour of royalty and luxury. Consequently, it brings up a feeling of trust and reliability. Purple’s rarity also gives it an air of mystery. It’s associated with creativity and the realm of fantasy — think about how many times magic gets portrayed as purple in popular culture.
PERSONALITY: Purple as a favourite colour is said to represent an artistic and unique individual, who is often very intuitive and deeply interested in spirituality. Lovers of purple are said to be good judges of character, and a visionary with a great need to participate in humanitarian issues.
